almond bloom

Did you know that almonds have long been a treasured food?  Eaten by pharoahs and traders of the silk road, almonds are even mentioned in the biblical accounts.

California’s relationship with almonds began in the mid 18th century, when Franciscan missionaries sought to first grow them in their coastal missions. It wasn’t until the 19th century when almonds found an ideal home inland, where climates and soils were a perfect match.

With the addition of efficient, modern irrigation these ideal growing conditions allow California to produce 80% of the world’s almonds.

Almonds are a good source of Vitamin E, calcium, and are a low cholesterol source of protein!
