The Sacramento Valley poster is the third farm water poster in a planned-for series of five posters. Early-day trappers found their way to the Sacramento Valley and as more and more people arrived, they turned to farming as a way of life after hopes of "strike-it-rich" in the gold mines faded. Water is an integral part of the Sacramento Valley. An estimated 80 percent of the rainfall in California occurs in the region. Consequently, the beginnings of both the California Water Project the federal Central Valley Project are located in the mountains on the edge of the Sacramento Valley. A combination of canals and rivers send the water southward. The Sacramento Valley poster provides a look at this flow of water and what it has meant during the years. New communities came to life and efforts have been undertaken to accommodate the environment. |
