SF Chronicle Editor, I think Mark Morford needs to get out of his rain-soaked apartment and pay a visit to the real world. His "Let's all get wet" column (3/6/09) included some disturbing inaccuracies. A closer look would reveal that California grows half of the nation's fruits and vegetables, so eating healthy, as he recommends, starts right here. He also claims that only a small percentage of the state's water goes to human use with the rest going to farmers. Well, who does he think benefits from the farmers using that water? Humans; including him!The columnist also ignores the fact that the environment uses 48% of all developed water in our state. Ag gets 41 percent and the remaining 11 percent goes to urban use, according to the Department of Water Resources in Sacramento. Mike Wade, Executive Director California Farm Water Coalition |
