Editor,

California policy makers would do well to follow the example of Imperial Irrigation District directors as they map out an interim water resource plan.

A review at a recent IID workshop provided the preliminary information needed that the IID directors will use to make their decision during an already-schedule meeting in August.  Thoughtful consideration of all options demonstrates the board's interest in solving problems for water users in IID's service area.

The answer to a future water supply that is secure for our state is a combination of new water supplies available from reservoirs and below ground water banks, a reliable conveyance system and conservation.  California legislators must also understand that the time is now to act to protect our water future.
